CEET was established in 1992 as joint centre of the faculties of Education and Business and Economics and with close links with the Australian Council for educational Research (ACER). From 1994 to 2009 it operated as the Monash University-ACER Centre for the Economics of Education and Training. It is now an entity within the Faculty of Education.

Associate Professor Bernardo Kipnis, University of Brasilia, Brazil, is visiting the Faculty of Education for 12 months from October 2014. He is undertaking a comparative study of the policies relating to vocational education and training (VET) systems in Australia and Brazil. The investigation will look at the historical and cultural contexts of the two systems and how the tension between the productivity and performance on one hand and equity and social inclusion on the other hand is addressed in each system.
