Residential developments

It’s an exciting time of transformation on the Clayton campus, with a number of major developments completed or underway for 2017. These developments form part of our Monash Masterplan to create a vibrant, inclusive and engaging campus experience for all our students, staff and visitors.

AROUND CAMPUS

C12 Car Park – Currently Monash Residential Services urban community parking

The space currently offering car parks for MRS students has been re-zoned for university development. During the mid-semester 1 break (30 Mar - 6 Apr), MRS UC Students will be reallocated parking bays in the South East and N1 car parks. This arrangement will remain until the end of 2018.

Chancellery Redevelopment

Work has begun to upgrade the physical workspaces of the centrally located Chancellery buildings. The revitalisation of these original 1960s buildings will alter the floor plan to support a more integrated and aligned way of working. Flexible pods, collaborative office and meeting spaces will improve the quality of interactions between staff and key partners and with students.

The completed Chancellery buildings will integrate with the rejuvenated Forum landscape and Sir Louis Matheson library forecourt, and complement the dynamic central campus
precinct around the Northern Plaza. Buildings 3A and 3B in this location will commence demolition and development works in October 2017.

Estimated completion for the project is mid-late 2019

Forum landscaping

Landscaping works began in late 2016 on the lawn area between the Sir Louis Matheson Library, Menzies Building and Chancellors Walk. The development includes a new courtyard and decked area for informal study and relaxation, larger walkways, integrated boardwalks and better lighting. A new water feature will act as a natural stormwater treatment and harvesting system, filtering water into major underground storage tanks for sustainable
landscape irrigation.Forum

Fresh lawn areas and new native plantings will help reinvigorate the landscape, complement the redesigned Sir Louis Matheson Library entrance and establish the Forum area as a welcoming outdoor community space. This development will be completed in late 2017.

Alexander Theatre

Funded with the support of the Victorian Government, the Ian Potter Foundation and Monash Foundation, a revitalised 586-seat Alexander Theatre will be the cornerstone of a new cultural precinct for the University. Once the theatre is refurbished, work will begin on a new Sound Gallery and 200-seat Jazz Club.Aledander Theatre

Collectively the renewed Alexander Theatre and two new venues will be named The Ian Potter Centre for Performing Arts, in recognition of the generous donation from The Ian Potter Foundation. The Alexander Theatre will reopen its doors in 2018, with the Jazz Club
and Sound Gallery to follow in 2019.

Learning and Teaching BuildingLearning and Teaching

The Clayton campus's new Learning and Teaching Building will create a dynamic learning environment for all students and staff engaged in innovative teaching and learning practices. More than 60 formal and informal learning and teaching spaces will provide a student-centred learning experience for Monash University and Monash College Diploma students alike. Comprising four levels and creating a striking new entrance for the campus from Wellington Road, the new building will also be home to Faculty of Education and the
Monash University Office of Learning and Teaching (MUOLT). Construction is progressing to schedule and will be operational for Semester 1, 2018.

Lighting upgrades

A major lighting upgrade is underway at Clayton Campus to enhance security and evening useability and activation.

The project has resulted from a 2016 audit of the external lighting levels at the campus.  It is delivering improved and compliant lighting levels to identified areas across the campus
using energy efficient LED lighting.
