Ernest Way Ming Chow

Ernest Chow is a Partner and Founder at Sensato Investors, an investment advisor which manages institutional investments across the Asia Pacific region. He has 20 years’ experience in the investment management industry.

Prior to establishing Sensato, Ernie worked at Barclays Global Investors, in San Francisco, from 1999 to 2008. He worked in a number of roles ultimately becoming Managing Director and Co-Head of Active Equity, focused on developing investment strategies and investment teams and managing portfolios invested  in the Asia region and globally.

Prior to that, he worked in the Investment Technology Group and the Investment Solutions Group at County Investment Management in Melbourne. Prior to that, he worked as an assistant lecturer and research assistant at Monash University.

Ernie holds three degrees from Monash University – B.Sc.(Hons), LL.B.(Hons) and a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics. He received the Leo Gleeson Prize for his honours year in Applied Mathematics. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He also has an A.Mus.A diploma in piano.

In the 1990s Ernie played keyboards, toured and made several recordings with Melbourne indie band The Ergot Derivative and also played and recorded with acid jazz group Blue Vinyl Lounge, among other musical projects.

Ernie feels fortunate for the opportunities that his education has afforded him and actively supports community and educational organizations. He served a number of years on the Global Advisory Board for international education organization Room to Read, and also on the Board of Trustees for the Bay  Area Discovery Museum. He serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees at the Chinese American International School in San Francisco.

He lives in San Francisco with his wife Gwen Hinze (also a proud Monash graduate), and their two children.
