Welcome to the final edition of your Alumni eNews for 2014. It has been another great year for Monash University and our alumni community – a year of celebrating our past and building the foundation for our future.

Our new alumni magazine - Monash Life - was sent to more than 220,000 alumni in September. We also held our first Alumni Outreach Program which has so far seen more than 4400 alumni support student scholarships, life-changing research and our libraries as well as donate their time to our volunteer programs.

Our Education and Law faculties have marked their 50-year anniversaries with gala dinners as well as a range of events and activities to bring graduates, students and staff together. Our Matheson library, Indigenous programs and School of Psychology also turned 50 during the year.

We celebrated the addition of more than 8000 members to our alumni community including our first from the Suzhou campus. The Chancellor and President and Vice-Chancellor also presented Honorary Fellowships and Fellowships to 15 alumni and members of the community in recognition of their contribution to the University.

In addition we honoured the career achievements of our graduates through the awarding of 10 faculty Distinguished Alumni Awards and an overall Distinguished Alumni of the Year. Many more alumni, staff and supporters received Australia Day and Queen’s Birthday honours.

More than 7500 alumni and friends have attended our events across 2014 including alumni events hosted by the Vice-Chancellor in Hong Kong, Singapore, the United States and the United Kingdom. We have also held three successful Alumni Speaker Series events, hosting renowned international author Simon Winchester and paying tribute to Sir John Monash and Nelson Mandela. We connected with you on social media with more than 3000 joining our official LinkedIn Group in 2014.

In September we farewelled outgoing President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Ed Byrne AC as he commenced a new chapter of his career in the UK. We also welcomed Professor Margaret Gardner AO as our new President and Vice-Chancellor.

On behalf of the Alumni team I thank you for your support of Monash University in 2014. We look forward to working with you in 2015. I wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season.

Regards
