Dr Elane Zelcer

Dr Elane Zelcer’s distinguished career has spanned academic, executive management, board director and management consulting roles, almost exclusively focused on life sciences and medical technologies. Her experience includes executive, board and advisory roles in the private sector (SME & multinational companies), universities, CRCs, and on Federal and State government committees. 

She has more than 30 years’ experience advising and assisting companies and research teams with strategic decision-making and risk management, governance, and strategic guidance for capital raising and commercialisation. 

Dr Zelcer’s first start-up company, Thrombogenix, was spun-out from Monash University in 1997 to develop new anti-thrombotic drugs for prevention of heart attack and stroke. As Chief Executive Officer, she led the company through three capital raising campaigns, raising more A$15M. Subsequently she has worked with other companies raising capital and developing their start-up strategies. 

She is currently contracted by the Australian Government as a Commercialisation Adviser for Accelerating Commercialisation. She has assisted more than 100 companies, university spin-outs and research teams to develop and refine their commercialisation strategies – many have received grants from the program, and investment from other sources. 

Dr Zelcer is also a mentor volunteer at Monash, supporting students on our Global Challenges program. Dr Zelcer graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Science (Honours), Doctor of Philosophy and a Graduate Diploma in Marketing, and undertook post-doctoral studies in physiology in Canada and the United States.
