Mr John Corcoran AM

Mr John Corcoran AM is a Principal at Russell Kennedy Lawyers and recently stepped down from the position of chair after ten years of service. 

Mr Corcoran was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in the Australia Day 2017 Honours List for “Significant service to the law, and to the legal profession, through a range of executive roles, and to the community.” 

This is an acknowledgment of Mr Corcoran’s great contribution to the community and to the legal profession. Mr Corcoran has held the high offices of President of the Law Institute of Victoria (where he is an Honorary Life Member) and President of the Law Council of Australia. His numerous board appointments include the Legal Services Board and the Management Board of the International Bar Association. 

Mr Corcoran was previously a recipient of a Centenary Medal for services to Australian society and to the law. He currently serves on the board of Mercy Health and is the Chair of the Legal Practitioners Liability Committee, a leading professional indemnity insurer for Australian lawyers. 

At Russell Kennedy, Mr Corcoran is a principal in the property and development team and helped establish a now well recognised national practice in the area of Retirement Living and Aged Care. 

Mr Corcoran was named Best Lawyers’ 2013 “Lawyer of the Year” and was recognised in 2012 to 2018 for expertise in Retirement Villages and Senior Living Law. He was also recognised for Real Property Law in the 2016 to 2018 Best Lawyers list. Mr Corcoran is also an accredited specialist in Business Law. 

Mr Corcoran holds degrees in Law and Economics from Monash University. He was a member of the Law Faculty’s Clinical Advisory Board for seven years up until December 2016.
