Monash University Alumni Relations: Special Bulletin

The four pillars of alumni programming

1. Student engagement

As a member of the Monash alumni community, you have a great deal to offer current students. Alumni can assist students (during and after their studies) by sharing your knowledge, skills, experience and networks. This contact with students can give you the opportunity to further develop your leadership and mentoring skills. It can also expose you to new ideas and to potential employees.

Monash alumni told us:

  • Monash graduates strongly agree (average rating was 8 out of maximum of 10) with the statement that they enjoyed their student experience
  • 26% of graduates are interested in becoming involved with students
  • 37% indicated they are interested in providing expertise to course reviews
  • 27% indicated that they wanted to be involved in student recruitment activities

What have we done?

  • Involved alumni in pre-departure programs for international students to assist students to prepare for life at Monash
  • Introduced opportunities for alumni to be involved in student recruitment activities
  • Encouraged and supported alumni and student participation in Team Monash community fitness events (walk, runs, marathons, bike rides)

Working together, we will:

  • Further develop mentoring across the University to enable alumni from all faculties the opportunity to support and learn from students
  • Encourage your involvement in student awards, leadership programs and other activities
  • Streamline and simplify opportunities for alumni to promote internships and jobs to Monash graduates
