Orientation 

Orientation 2004 has been a resounding success.  Students and staff enjoyed a free breakfast of mini muffins, pastries, juice, tea and coffee.  Entertainment included a jazz duo and Tim Wilson (2003 Student President) in his role as a roving reporter, interviewing and welcoming new students to the campus.

Approximately 800 new students attended the official welcome ceremony  in Chisholm Hall as an African drummer led in the academic procession.  Speeches welcoming students to the City of Glen Eira and the university were made by the Mayor, Cr. Dorothy Marwick, Academic Director, Professor Rob Willis and Student President 2004, Michael Josem.

International Women's Day Lunch

The Caulfield Campus International Women's Day Lunch was held at the Caulfield Racecourse on Wednesday 10 March.  More than 140 people attended the event this year - a new record!!

The guest speaker for the event was Jill Singer.   Jill spoke of motherhood, IVF and surrogacy and her very well-researched talk was most thought provoking and stimulating.

Piano Recital

A free lunchtime recital by internationally acclaimed pianist Brian Chapman will take place on Thursday 15 April in the Clayfield Room between 1.10 p.m and 1.55 p.m.  Brian will present a Chopin recital, including the Sonata in B minor Opus 58.

All staff and students are welcomed and encouraged to attend. 

Bicycle Lockers

12 single cages in Princes Avenue, 12 individual lockers at the western end of N Building, 2 individual lockers at the Administration entry to A Building and 4 double cages in the tunnel opposite C Building entry. MONSU will mangage the lockers/cages. Please contact the MONSU Service
Desk on x32525. Estimated costs are $50 deposit for a key and $33 per semester for a single bike facility and $20 per semester for a shared bike facility.

 

Library Opening Hours - 15 March

The Library opening hours, as from 15 March are:

Monday to Friday - 8.00 a.m. to Midnight

Saturday - 10.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m.

Sunday 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Intercampus Shuttle Bus

The intercampus shuttle bus between Caulfield and Clayton campuses now operates twice as often as in 2003, with buses departing from both campuses every 15 minutes.

The service is provided for all staff and students with staff/student ID cards to be presented upon request.  Seats are limited with utilisation  on a "first come-first served" basis.  Buses can be boarded at the Gatehouse at Caulfield and at the bus loop at Clayton.

Paper Recycling   

Paperaway who have the contract for the collection of recycled paper have changed their pick up day for the Caulfield campus. Tuesday morning clearance has now been changed to Monday afternoons. All bins should be left for clearance each Monday by lunchtime. Please do  not leave bins out on Fridays as weekend rubbish is dumped in our recycle bins

No Smoking near Building Entrances

As it is policy that smoking is not permitted within 10 metres of a
building entrance we have commenced sign posting and writing around campus. Staff and students may have noticed the walkway on Levels 1 and 2 of K/N Buildings where no smoking areas have been line marked. Gradually all entrances will be signed.

ITS Help Desk - Move  

The ITS Helpdesk has now relocated its operations from Merlins to the Service Centre.  Students will be able to seek help/advice between 8.30 a.m. and 8.30 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays and between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. on Fridays.

Caulfield is a vibrant and multifaceted campus. It offers a wide range of educational opportunities to a diverse population of students and accommodates a substantial number of international students. Ensuring equity for all in such a complex environment is a challenge for staff to embrace. Managing diversity, understanding the nature of and preventing discrimination and sexual harassment are important for all staff.
Familiarity with anti-discrimination legislation, Monash EO policies and procedures support staff in their various roles. Come along to this workshop and be challenged. Test your knowledge and develop your skills.
