A copy of the following document can be downloaded here. PDF (114 KB)

The conference committee seeks contributions that fall within the conference theme Creating an Engaging Teaching & Learning Experience with Tablets. The committee welcomes submissions:

  • from all educational settings (e.g. primary & secondary education, vocational training, higher education),
  • focussing on a specific discipline or subject area, or those that cut across areas,
  • describing in-class activities or out-of-class activities,
  • involving teacher and/or student activities.

The committee especially welcomes contributions describing "out-of-the-box" approaches to tablet teaching & learning, and submissions that present innovative ideas, explore tablet teaching pedagogies, and reveal an impact (or lack thereof) on student learning and learning outcomes.

 Contributions

We invite abstract submissions for two kinds of contributions:

Submissions are non-refereed. Following the conference, presentations should be submitted to the committee to be uploaded onto the conference website.

Presentations: 30 minutes

Presentation sessions provide a case-study based environment to discuss practical aspects of teaching & learning with tablets, and for exploring research into tablet-based teaching. Presenters are strongly encouraged to engage the audience in their presentation and to allocate 10 - 15 minutes of their presentation to interactive discussion of the presented material.

Abstract submissions for presentations may include original research, case studies or works in progress that highlight innovative practices and new approaches to teaching and learning with tablets. They should provide a succinct summary of the approach and findings, including information on the educational setting (e.g. compulsory, non-compulsory education; in-class, out-of class setting; on/off-campus learning) and the supporting software employed.

The audience for this conference is diverse in terms of discipline, grade-level, and educational settings. Abstracts should, therefore, be written in a language that minimises academic jargon and is accessible to educators from various backgrounds.

Abstract submissions for presentations are limited to 250 words. Submissions must be received on or before 18 September, 2009. Authors may submit more than one abstract. Please submit your abstract(s) in pdf file format (e-mail attachment) to Katharina.Franke@adm.monash.edu.au.

Authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to give a presentation at the ATiEC 2009. Authors will be notified of their abstract acceptance by 2 October 2009.

Interactive Tutorials: 60-90 minutes

Interactive tutorials will demonstrate new and emerging pen-based technology or software. Tutorial attendees are expected to actively participate and interact in the workshop, and be given the opportunity to engage with the technology or software. Typically, interactive tutorials will demonstrate to participants how to use certain software and/or a pen-based device. Tutorials should provide the opportunity for participants to ask questions and to engage with the learning experience.

Submissions for interactive tutorials should not exceed 600 words in length, and should describe how the tutorial will provide a lively and interactive contribution to the conference. Proposals should include details on the key objective, brief description of activities, state specific technology and space requirements, and provide details on the overall timeframe.

The audience for this conference is diverse in terms of discipline, grade-level, and educational settings. Proposals should, therefore, be written in a language that minimises academic jargon and is accessible to educators from various backgrounds.

Tutorial proposals must be received on or before 18 September, 2009. Authors may submit more than one proposal for an interactive tutorial. Please submit your abstract(s) in pdf file format (e-mail attachment) to Katharina.Franke@adm.monash.edu.au.

Authors of accepted tutorial proposals will be invited to conduct an interactive tutorial at the ATiEC 2009. Authors will be notified of their acceptance by 2 October 2009.
