Professor Ana DeleticCivil Engineering
Ana Deletic is a Professor in Civil Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering, Monash University, Associate Dean Research of Faculty of Engineering, and the Director of Monash Infrastructure - an interdisciplinary research institute that delivers impact from Monash's research in infrastructure. Ana leads a large research group that works on integrated urban water management, focusing on stormwater management, green treatment technologies, and socio-technical modelling. In just two decades she has supervised over 25 PhD students, published over 250 journal articles, conference papers and other publications. She is Editor of Water Research journal. Ana is Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE), and currently serves on the Victorian Division Committee of ATSE. In 2012, the Victorian State Parliament awarded Ana the Victoria Prize for Science and Innovation (Physical Sciences). She is the first woman to win this prestigious award in its 18 year history.
Research interests: Since moving to Monash University in 2003, Ana built a strong research team now internationally recognised in the field of urban water management and Water Sensitive Urban Design. In the past 13 she has attracted around $25 mil to support the research activities of the group.
For example, Ana led research activities of the Facility for Advancing Water Biofiltration (FAWB), which developed design specifications for stormwater bioretentions, now accepted as industry standards. This award winning technology was adopted in Singapore and Israel. For example, Ana's research group piloted the first stormwater biofiltration systems for stormwater harvesting in Tel-Aviv; these systems are a rare example of the water technology export from Australia into Israel. Ana is currently leading a large team of researchers, who are working on development of innovative designs for stormwater harvesting systems.
She is also know for her research in the area of socio-technical modelling. Ana leads a team of modellers at Monash University that develops tools for stormwater management (i.e. UrbanBEATS, CRC Tool Kit, etc) and integrated urban water management (e.g. DAnCE4Water). She has worked on uncertainties in urban drainage models, while charing the IWA’s international working group on Data and Models (that works under Joint Urban Drainage Committee of IWA)
Furthermore, Ana fosters strong international collaborations, e.g. she worked on the EU FP7 project PREPARED, focusing on adaptation of urban water systems to climate change with over 30 international partners.
