Confirmation examination*

ALL PhD Students and Masters students commenced before 1 Jan 2015:
10 to 12 months from commencement of candidature. (A milestone extension request form** must be submitted for confirmation after 12 months and must be submitted at least 5 days before the deadline).

Masters students commenced on or after 1 Jan 2015:8 months from commencement of candidature. (Late Masters confirmations must also be approved prior to the deadline).

Departmental Graduate Research Coordinator*** as Chair

2 independent examiners from the department or faculty. One examiner may be external to the University if suitably qualified.

Seek approval of nominated examiners from Departmental Graduate Research Coordinator ***

Arrange examination date

Attend seminar and oral examination

After receiving forms from student, submit to the Departmental Graduate Research Coordinator **

Prepare 5000-7500 word report

Give public seminar (20 min)#

Book both a lecture theatre for seminar and a meeting room for examination

Obtain milestone report forms

Submit forms to supervisor

Submit electronically the detail of seminar (time and place) and abstract to Student Services Coordinator (Postgraduates)****

Approval of the nominated examiners

Announce and chair the public seminar

Chair the oral examination

Receive the forms filled in from supervisor, complete and submit to the Faculty

Mid candidature review /
Progress Review

PhD Students commenced before 1 Jan 2015:
21-27 months from commencement of candidature.

PhD Students commenced on or after 1 Jan 2015:
24 months from commencement of candidature. (A milestone extension request form must be submitted for a progress review after 24 months and must be submitted at least 5 days before the deadline).

Masters students commenced on or after 1 Jan 2015:
16 months from commencement of candidature. (There is no mid-candidature review or progress review for Masters students commenced before 1 Jan 2015).

Prepare summary of progress (at least 1000 word) and research paper/chapter

Give public seminar (20 min)#
