Chris Marchingo

Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Science

Chris Marchingo is now working as a Radio Network Engineer following his Engineering undergraduate degree at Monash University.

Chris’ engineering degree helped support him with his career choice, assisting to develop world class mobile technology. He says that the “learning skills and soft skills I learnt through my classes and projects have been useful to me in my role”. There are many opportunities available to engineering students and as Chris reiterates, “there may often be great opportunities outside the fields you have been studying in”. An engineering degree gives students the chance to think outside the square and develop skills used in a range of fields.

While Chris is passionate about engineering he is also involved with the Monash Philharmonic Society, more affectionately known as the ‘Phil’ Society. Chris has been playing the bassoon from a young age. He believes that it gave him an opportunity to “have a great time playing music with the many friends that I made”.

Teamwork is also very important to Chris, being a highlight during his university days, “team projects were a challenge, giving us the opportunity to develop new skills and advance existing ones”.

Today Chris is enjoying designing, building and optimising mobile phone networks. Travel opportunities are also another highlight of Chris’ job today as he is assigned to projects around the world.

In the future Chris is hoping that he will be able “to play an important role in the continued development and rollout of advanced mobile technology around the world”.
