Nicholas Hoong Man Ng
Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours)
Nicholas Hoong Man Ng graduated from Monash University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical)(Hons). He currently works at Cameron International Corporation as a Surface Product Manager (Asia Region) within the Drilling and Production Systems division.
“Having worked for the same company since I graduated, there was never a boring moment. In the oil and gas sector, the challenges and opportunities are never ending.”
Nicholas identifies his early years in the profession as a highlight of his career.
“After working at Cameron for 3 months, I was sent to the Research and Development Centre in Houston. There I was involved in one of the biggest and most challenging product development projects at the time. That opportunity catapulted me into roles of ever-increasing responsibility.”
“I’ve had the opportunity to work in some of the harshest environments in the world and conversely, in nice, comfortable offices. Needless to say, my work life has been varied and there has never been a dull time.”
Nicholas obtained his Chartered Professional Engineers qualifications with Engineers Australia and also became a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in the UK.
“I have always enjoyed pushing the design limits of the systems I have worked with. Nothing gives me greater joy and drive than having the “first” of a certain system or design.”
Nicholas looks back on his time at Monash Clayton fondly.
“My time at Monash Clayton was the best four years of my life. I had excellent professors, made some great friends and learnt the true meaning of camaraderie. I also learnt the most important engineering lesson: thinking outside the box!”
