Biomedical, Bioprocess and Biomaterials Engineering

Biomedical technology research in the Faculty aims to deliver understanding and technology to improve health outcomes in the real world.

Research cuts across the traditional boundaries of Medicine, Engineering, Pharmacy and Information Technology and is supported with the Monash University commitment to inter-disciplinary research.

Particular strengths are in the micro- and nano-technology for areas including tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, drug delivery, smart diagnostics and sensors including wireless technology, bioimaging, biomaterials and biosurfaces, bioreactors, implants and prosthetics.

Our flagship project in biomedical technology is the development of a bionic eye for those afflicted with acquired blindness. We will trial this technology in the coming 12 months.
