Part A - Preliminaries

11. University Polices and Further Policy Development and Review

11.1 All staff members are subject to the University Policies and procedures however such policies and procedures do not form part of this Agreement.

11.2 Committees comprising nominees of the University and staff representatives elected by University staff for the purpose will be established within 6 months of the certification of this Agreement as follows:

  1. A General Staff Career Development Committee will consider training and career development issues for general staff as a whole and for specific groups such as new employees, women and indigenous staff, and, review the current and proposed classification linking.
  2. A Research Staff Employment Committee will review employment issues for research staff.
  3. A Committee will review the Intellectual Property Statute and associated staff policies, including consideration of the moral and intellectual property rights (extending to economic rights where applicable) of staff employed in research, teaching or related activities, inclusive of the production of on-line teaching and learning materials.

11.3 Each Committee will provide reports and recommendations to the relevant officers of the University and in the case of (b) above, a report on its findings by December 2006.

Intellectual Freedom

11.4 Without derogating from or limiting the employment obligations of staff, including the obligations to comply with reasonable and lawful requests, the University encourages staff to contribute to public debate and advocacy in areas of expertise and in more general areas relating to social justice, human rights, education and a sustainable environment.
