This Part shall apply to all trades and services staff engaged in catering and/or retail services (including Tea Attendants) but does not extend to Sports Control Desk staff employed within the Sports and Recreation Centre on Clayton Campus.
82. NON-CONTINUING EMPLOYMENT FOR MONASH RESIDENTIAL SERVICES ACCOMMODATION UNITS CATERING STAFF
82.1 As the Monash Residential Services Accommodation Units are fully self funding, receiving no income from any other source either directly or indirectly, all costs and expenditure associated with the Monash Residential Services Accommodation Units annual operation must be recouped for the most part from student accommodation rental income. The accommodation rental fees, maintenance schedules, cleaning requirements, food service requirements and other services and facilities offered to the residents are generally fixed for a period of one year only. As operational changes can be made on a yearly basis, the Director, Monash Residential Services reserves the right to employ staff on fixed term appointments.
82.2 A fixed term appointment is made where the Director, Monash Residential Services so determines, following appropriate advice and consideration which may include:
- current and projected work demands;
- operational changes;
- the type of services and facilities requested by the residents;
- external cost increases which may impact on the Monash Residential Services Accommodation Units budget.
82.3 A fixed term appointment may be either on a:
- casual basis (as defined under clause 67); or
- fractional time basis; or
- full-time basis for a specific period of time.
82.4 On engagement, a fixed term employee shall be given written advice of the following by the University:
- the date on which the employment is to commence;
- the date on which the employment is to terminate;
- the classification of the employee;
- the salary rate of the employee;
- a statement of the required duties and responsibilities;
- the terms and conditions of employment applicable to the employee; and
- the hours of duty and time of attendance of the employee, if fractional time.
82.5 Employees on current fixed term appointments have no guarantee of on-going employment. However, at the end of their current appointment a new fixed term appointment may be offered on either a full-time or fractional time basis. A fixed term appointment will be made where the Director, Monash Residential Services so determines following considerations expressed under clause 82.2.
82.6 Provided there remains an on-going requirement and consideration is given to items expressed under clause 82.2, there shall be no limit to the number of times an employee may be offered additional fixed term appointments.
82.7 Employees on current fixed term appointments, at the end of their current appointment, may be offered a new fixed term appointment on either a full-time or fractional time basis without the need to be appointed through an open externally advertised selection process.
83. MONASH RESIDENTIAL SERVICES ACCOMMODATION UNITS CATERING STAFF UNIFORM ALLOWANCE
In lieu of the provision of a uniform, Monash Residential Services Accommodation Units catering staff shall be paid a uniform allowance of $3.97 per week. Provided that such allowance shall not be payable for any week where a staff member is absent on leave for a continuous period from midnight Friday to midnight of the following Friday.
84. SPAN OF HOURS FOR MONASH RESIDENTIAL SERVICES ACCOMMODATION UNITS CATERING STAFF
There is no span of hours for work to be performed.
85. CHANGE OF ROSTERS FOR CASUAL MONASH RESIDENTIAL SERVICES ACCOMMODATION UNITS CATERING STAFF
If a conference and/or function scheduled outside term time is cancelled or the numbers attending reduced, due to circumstances outside the control of the University, casual staff members rostered to work at that function and/or conference may have their rosters reduced accordingly, provided that affected staff members will be notified at the earliest possible opportunity. A staff member reporting for work as a result of not having been notified will be paid for a minimum engagement.
86. REST INTERVALS FOR MONASH RESIDENTIAL SERVICES ACCOMMODATION UNITS CATERING STAFF
All staff working over seven hours a day shall receive one ten-minute rest interval between the time of starting work and the usual meal interval and a second ten minutes between the usual meal interval and the time of ending work.
All staff working at least four hours but less than seven hours a day shall receive one ten-minute rest interval during such period of work. If the work period includes a meal break the rest interval is to be granted in that portion of the work period which is the greater or where such work periods are of equal duration the rest period of ten minutes shall be given at a time to be mutually agreed upon.
87. WEEKEND WORK FOR MONASH RESIDENTIAL SERVICES ACCOMMODATION UNITS CATERING STAFF
A rate of time and a half shall apply for ordinary hours rostered and worked by staff (other than casual staff) on Saturday or Sunday
