This part applies to the following categories of trades and services staff: Carpenters, Electricians, Fitters, Oiler/Greasers, Painters, Plant Attendants, Plumbers, Store Attendants (as defined under clause 3); and Trade Assistants

Section 3 - Hours of Work, Breaks, Overtime, Shift Work, Weekend Work

78. Hours of Work

78.1 The ordinary weekly hours shall be an average of 38 hours per week worked over a nine-day fortnight with a Rostered Day off (RDO) accrued in each two-week cycle.

78.2 There will be standard start and finish times of ordinary work fixed by the relevant management and staff concerned at each campus which shall not thereafter be altered except in accordance with clause 9 of this Agreement. Where applicable, the sign-on and sign-off of staff members' hours of attendance under existing swipe-card time recording systems shall continue.

78.3 Each day of paid leave taken and any holiday observed by the University and occurring during any two-week cycle shall be regarded as a day worked for accrual purposes provided that each day of paid leave is debited at the rate of 8 hours and 27 minutes per day from leave credits.

78.4 RDOs will be rostered on the basis of the work requirements of the staff member's particular work unit. Provided that where an accrued RDO falls on a holiday observed by the University, the next working day shall be taken in lieu of the RDO unless an alternative day in the two-week cycle is agreed in writing between the University and the staff member concerned.

78.5 A staff member who has not worked, or is not regarded by reason of clause 78.3 above as having worked, a complete nine-day two-week cycle shall receive pro rata accrued entitlements for each day worked or regarded as having been worked in such cycle, payable for the RDO or in the case of Termination of Employment, on Termination.

78.6 RDOs may not be taken in advance of the accrual of the entitlement.

78.7 Staff may in exceptional circumstances be required to report for duty on a day rostered as an RDO without the payment of overtime or other penalties, provided that the RDO is transferred to a mutually agreed time at a later date but not later than the next accrued RDO.
