If you don't pay your fees, charges or fines, we place an encumbrance on your Monash account. This means you won't be able to access library, computer or enrolment services. You'll be unable to see your exam results, request academic records (transcripts) or graduate. We'll notify you in writing if this happens.
Types of encumbrances
The most common reasons for an encumbrance are:
- incomplete enrolment documentation
- overdue course fees
- library fines
- halls of residence fees
- overdue student loans
- late enrolment or other fines
Clearing an encumbrance
Clearing an encumbrance usually involves paying your debt. We’ll email your Monash account with details of the encumbrance and instructions on how to clear it.
Payments may take up to three working-days, regardless of the payment method. For payment options, see pay your fees.
If your access is not returned within three days, contact Monash Connect.
If you continue not to pay your debt, we will invalidate (cancel) your enrolment.
