Assessment and Honorarium

Honorarium

Monash provides all examiners with an honorarium upon receipt of the thesis examination report. The fee is:

  • AUD $462, doctoral thesis
  • AUD $260, master’s thesis

Honorarium forms

Australian examiners may wish to also complete and the Tax File Number declaration, (digital signatures will NOT be accepted) to avoid being taxed at the higher bracket. Alternatively, examiners with ABNs can invoice us for the full amount plus GST.

Overseas examiners, will be issued a cheque in your local currency or be paid directly into your account, once you have provided the banking details form. Banking details, including SWIFT code must be provided. IBAN is also required for payment in Euro.

Assessment completion time

Doctoral examiners have eight weeks to complete thesis assessment and Master examiners, six weeks. If you need more time, please inform us so that we can update the student and supervisor.

Report submission

From September, 2016 all PhD and MPhil examinations will be conducted online via a secure personalised portal, sent to the examiner via email. The report and final recommendation is to be completed via this link.  Examiners who have misplaced the email, can contact mge-thesisexams@monash.edu and the link will be resent.

All other examinations reports should be emailed to mge-thesisexams@monash.edu.

Release of reports

Once all reports and comments have been received, unedited copies (including your identity) will be forwarded to the student, their supervisor and the head of the academic unit.
