Welcome to Monash Webgirls

Welcome to Monash Webgirls

We are a support, mentoring and information network for women in the Monash community. We organise events/meetings, seminars, speakers. We facilitate formal and informal web-related training. We coordinate social activities.

Short history

Monash Webgirls was formed at a lunchtime meeting of half a dozen Monash women in March, 2000. Our first official meeting was on April 19, 2000 and our first event took place on May 10, 2000.

Monash Webgirls aims

  • To provide a support, mentoring and information network for women in the Monash community who share an interest in using, working and learning about the web and its associated technologies;
  • To organise events (meetings, seminars, speakings) that focus on web-related issues and news;
  • To facilitate training, both formal and informal, with a view to increasing Monash women's IT literacy and competence, and to further the employment prospects of Monash women within the IT industry; and
  • To coordinate social activities for Monash women as a means of establishing informal mentoring and information exchange within the context of the web and information technologies.

Who can join Monash Webgirls?

Any woman who is a member of the Monash community--a student, member of staff, or member of Monash Alumni--is welcome to participate in our activities.

Monash Webgirls include experienced web and IT professionals, students embarking on a course of study in information technology, women who are beginning to dabble in web publishing, and addicted (or soon-to-be-addicted) users of the web!

How do I join?

There is no formal membership application process, just send an email to Gian for more information.

Activities are organised by volunteers within the group. If you'd like to organise an activity, please do so. You can advertise it on this website.
