Amaero - Additive manufacturing of aerospace equipment
Monash has world leading expertise in advanced manufacturing, particularly in areas relating to additive manufacturing of metal alloy components for the aerospace and defence industries. Additive manufacturing offers opportunities in a number of ways: faster development times, lighter and cheaper products and in many cases, fewer component parts.
Monash has collaborated with Microturbo (part of the Safran Group) to develop 3-D printing techniques for potential manufacture of aerospace components. This has resulted in formation of a spin out company, AMAERO Engineering to commercialise products based on research by the Monash team. The partnership between Monash and its international partners is a success story that was recognised when Safran awarded the team its ‘Innovation for Product and Technology’ prize. A proof of concept entire jet engine was revealed in February 2015, demonstrating the capability of AMAERO.
