Ten reasons to choose Monash

1. Prestige

Monash is a member of Australia's prestigious Group of Eight universities, recognised for excellence in research, teaching and scholarship. It is ranked in the top 50 universities in the world by the Times Higher Education Supplement (UK).

2. Choice

Monash is Australia's largest and most internationalised university. This means more opportunity, choice and flexibility. Choose from options like part-time or full-time study, single or double degrees, or the campus you study at -- or choose distance learning and create a study schedule to fit your career and lifestyle.

3. Global reach

The world is our campus. Monash has six Australian campuses, plus campuses in Malaysia and South Africa and a centre in Prato, Italy. Monash students come from more than 100 countries and there are over 17,000 international students studying at Monash, over 30 per cent of the total students. Monash has a growing worldwide alumni network of more than 225,000 graduates.

4. Lifestyle

All Monash campuses offer excellent facilities to provide every opportunity to balance studies with sports and an active social life. Melbourne has ranked consistently as one of the world's most liveable cities on the basis of its culture, climate, cost of living, and social conditions such as low crime rate and excellent health care. Beaches, art, music, sport and culture are all within easy reach.

5. Employment

Monash courses are outcome focused. Monash is highly respected by employers, and multinational companies actively recruit on our campuses. Many Monash degrees offer industry placements that can give you advantages in the graduate job market. A Monash qualification will be recognised and respected worldwide.

6. Research

Monash is a leading, research-intensive university that pursues knowledge and solutions from a global perspective. Our researchers make important contributions that bring real change to people's lives - such as through pioneering IVF technology; drug development including combating malaria and influenza; ground-breaking accident research; and climate change solutions. 2007 research income totalled $214 million.

7. Facilities

Monash invests heavily teaching and learning facilities. Monash has state-of-the-art multimedia lecture theatres, libraries that contain more than 2.6 million items, around 120 computer labs and more than 2500 workstations. Providing facilities for sports clubs and student services across all campuses contribute to a rewarding student experience.

8. Leadership

Monash has a lead role to influence and deliver outcomes for 21st century societies. Research themes will address sustainability, peace and security, economic development, innovation, health and disease and community cohesion. Monash also produces leaders. Monash law graduates occupy the four most senior judicial positions in the Victorian court system; eight Monash scientists shared in the prestige of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, and the Monash MBA was ranked Top 50 in the world by the Economist Intelligence Unit in 2007.

9. Staff

Our academic staff-student ratio is higher than the average Australian university, enabling students to receive more focus and attention. Monash academics are recognised leaders and innovators in their fields. They are committed to bringing out the best in students and reinforcing the importance of a fully-rounded and globally-relevant education.

10. Scholarships

Monash offers scholarships and bursaries through merit, equity and access programs for domestic and international students. In 2008, the University will administer almost 4500 new and ongoing scholarships and awards valued at A$42 million.
