How you are assessed

For Monash University students

Grades
There are four grades (above fail): Pass (P), Near Pass (NP), Credit (C), Distinction (D), High Distinction (HD). Your grades are also usually expressed in percentage terms. You will receive a grade for each unit.

D Distinction 70-79
C Credit 60-69
P Pass 50-59
N Fail 0-49

Assessment methods
Assessment may include a range of methods, such as formal end-of-semester examinations, continuous assessment throughout the semester, or written assignments/essays and field projects, etc. As each course module begins, the University advises students of the relevant assessment method. Monash University's Handbook includes details of the assessment method used in each unit.

Academic transcripts
An official university transcript will be issued and posted after official grades are released. The transcript provides details of the units taken and grades achieved.

Graduation information
Graduation is not automatic following completion of a university course. You must apply to graduate.

For Monash College students

Grades
Monash College units share a common standard of grades. The following are the standard grades and associated ranges of marks in College programs:

D Distinction 70-79
C Credit 60-69
P Pass 50-59
NP Near Pass 45-49*
N Fail 0-49

* This grade is only available to Diploma of Engineering Studies Part 2 students.


Assessment and examinations

Publication of results
Examination results are accessed from the published date by logging on to My Monash portal.

A personal notification of results in the form of an Academic Record is issued some time after the publication date. If you have any queries about your results, please contact the College as soon as possible. Results will not be made available before the publication date and they will not be given over the telephone by staff. Results for students with an outstanding debt to the College will be withheld pending payment in full of that debt.

Graduation information
Graduation is not automatic following completion of a Monash College diploma. You must apply to graduate.
