The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement):
-
conduct focused research and environmental scanning on international education for the benefit of the university community
-
develop project proposals and business plans for new initiatives
-
monitor funding opportunities from major international research funding bodies and manage the University’s relationship with those bodies
-
maintain the international partnerships database and support the establishment of new partnerships
-
receive delegations from partners and potential partners
-
publish and present on key issues in international education and research
-
research and prepare responses to requests from DEEWR, Universities Australia etc. on the university’s position on particular issues

Lloyd Bradbury is a current Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Commerce student at Monash. His majors in Chinese and Finance respectively have allowed him to explore passions for business, investment, politics and intellectualism in the Greater China region. This is a passion that he has furthered through studies at Nanjing University (2007) and East Chinese Normal University (2010), as well as executive involvement in the Australia-China Youth Association. His experiences in China are extensive and include interning at ANZ Bank in Shanghai, undertaking volunteer translation work for the 2010 Shanghai Film Festival, achieving a 3rd Prize at the Chinese Bridge Competition in 2009, performing Chinese opera and travelling extensively through China.

Rebecca's primary responsibility is to implement the University's China strategy. Her primary focus is to provide advice and support in the University's engagement with China, and to facilitate the successful implementation of research and education programs with the University's strategic Chinese partners. Rebecca joined the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement) in June 2011. Before joining the Office, she worked at the Faculty of Engineering. Rebecca holds a Master of International Business, a Master of Diplomacy and Trade, and a Bachelor of Business Management from Monash University. Rebecca has lived in Beijing, China, and speaks fluent Chinese.

Nizar’s primary role is to developing a country specific Monash strategy for educational involvement in the Middle East region, to promote and develop HDR scholarship opportunities from the Middle East, with focus on recruiting HDR students on scholarship from ME, developing policies and guidelines for proactive engagement with leading universities and educational institutions in the region and developing senior level linkages with key government bodies. Nizar joined Monash University on January 2006 and joined the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chanceller (Global Engagement) in April 2007. Nizar was the Director of Primary Health Care, Sharjah Medical District Ministry of Health, Sharjah, UAE for thirty years from 1976. Nizar holds a M.B.B.S from Ain Shams University, Egypt. A D.T.M&H. from University of Liverpool UK, a Dip.Ven. from the University of Liverpool UK and a Master of Family Medicine (Clinical) from Monash University. Nizar speaks fluent Arabic.

Michael's role is to manage and coordinate the preparation of bids, proposals and submissions and to assist faculties in the development of projects aligned with the University's goals relating to education services in an international context.
Prior to joining the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement) in July 2011, Michael was working as a Senior Project Manager at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. He has project management experience in development, higher education, research and the health sector. He has worked for a number of international organisations, such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the European Agency for Reconstruction and the European Union's Commission for External Relations. In 2006, Michael migrated to Australia where he spent three years working on innovative patient safety initiatives in Brisbane.
Michael received his M.A. qualification in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Heidelberg in Germany and graduated in 2004 from the College of Europe in Belgium in European Political and Administrative Studies. He is a PMI certified Project Management Professional and speaks fluent German, French and Dutch.

Alison has worked in the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement) Engagement since the beginning of February 2008. As International Protocol Officer, Alison’s role is to coordinate the itineraries and oversee protocol of international delegations visiting the university. Visits fall within the categories of diplomatic visits, visits by representatives from international academic institutions and also senior officials from overseas government departments. Alison has worked in the international area of Monash University for the last eight years both within the university and at Monash College

Alan commenced at the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement) in September 2010. His primary role is to support the Director, Strategy and Planning in providing research and analysis in areas of international engagement, student recruitment and marketing and communications. Since commencing at Monash in 2002, he has worked at the Research Office as a data analyst, and at University Planning and Statistics as a Statistics Officer. Prior to working at Monash, Alan was a data analyst in the environmental and recycling industry haveing worked overseas in London at a large recycling company, and for a small private environmental consultancy in Melbourne. He has a Bachelor of Science from Monash University.

Allan's primary role is to provide research, protocol and executive support for Monash's international engagements, particularly in East Asia, Middle East and Latin America. He is also responsible for managing the process for establishing or renewing agreements with Monash's international partners within the Office.
Allan joined the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Global Engagement) in June, 2008. Prior to joining Monash University, Allan lived in Japan and Korea and has worked in a variety of fields including: lexicography, ESL instruction, corporate sustainability, and commercial banking. Allan holds a Bachelor of Business (International Business) from QUT, and a Master of Diplomacy and Trade from Monash University undertaken via distance education.

As Director Strategy and Planning, Dr Eugene Sebastian is responsible for providing administrative and strategic leadership and support for the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice President’s global engagement initiatives and priorities.
Eugene was previously Director for International Research responsible for promoting the development of international research across the University and building strategic alliances with key international partners. Prior to joining Monash, Eugene was with the Research Institute for Asia and the Pacific at the University of Sydney where he developed and managed international development projects funded by the Japan Ministry of Finance, United Nations Development Program, UNICEF in Cambodia and North Korea, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, AusAID and the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor. Eugene also worked with a multinational firm in developing corporate training solutions for the Australian and New Zealand markets.
Eugene holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Flinders University and a PhD from the University of Sydney. His essay on ‘Protest from the fringe: opposing Australia's education aid reform', was selected for the 2007 issue of New Talents 21C published by the Australian Public Intellectual Network. His thesis was awarded ‘Outstanding postgraduate thesis (PhD) on a topic related to international education' by the International Education Association of Australia. His research interests include internationalisation of higher education and the use of technology in political communications and mobilisation.

Michael leads areas that include the development and review of the university's international plan, development, planning and coordination for the Monash University Prato Centre, coordination with key university partners in Europe and US, as well as development of Monash Abroad.
Michael has worked and lived in Italy and Korea. He holds a B.Comm from the University of Melbourne, a G.Dip (Arts - Asian Studies) from Monash and also studied at the Graduate School of International Studies and the Korean Language Institute at Yonsei University, Seoul, where he was a Korea Foundation Fellow. He is currently completing an MBA.

Belinda's primary role is to assist and support the Staff in the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement) in administration. Belinda joined the Office in February 2007. Prior to joining Monash, Belinda worked in a number of administrative roles. Belinda holds a Bachelor of Teaching (Primary)/Bachelor of Arts from Deakin University. Belinda speaks fluent Chinese.

Erica's primary role in the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement) is to provide support to the Director, International Education. Prior to joining Monash University in August 2009, Erica worked as Consultant and Program Coordinator in the International Development sector. She has a Bachelor of Arts (International Studies) from RMIT University in Melbourne. Erica has worked overseas in Afghanistan, coordinating an aid-funded scholarship program.

Rachel provides a range of executive-level administrative, secretarial and office management support to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement). Rachel plays a critical role in the efficient running of the office including diary management, work flow priorities within the ODVCGE portfolio, travel management, and HR requirements. Rachel has worked in the International area of Monash University for the last 15 years including Monash International. Rachel speaks fluent Spanish and moderate Italian.
