East Java Bioassessment Project

Location: Brantas River, East Java, Indonesia
Donor: AusAID
Duration: January 1998 - December 1999

Implemented by the Water Studies Centre within Monash University's Department of Chemistry, this AusAID funded project has sought to adapt and trial Australian bio-assessment techniques in a section of the Brantas River in East Java. The aim of the consultancy was to assess the potential for inclusion of the process within the National Clean Rivers Program (PROKASIH) in Indonesia.

Training of Engineers for the My Thuan Bridge

Location: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Australia
Donor: Government of Vietnam
Duration: 1996 - 2000

This technical assistance project provided training in civil engineering, project management, design and construction for 35 Vietnamese engineers working on the My Thuan Bridge Project. The project involved the use of Monash University's Department of Civil Engineering wind tunnel in order to investigate aerodynamic instabilities which may occur in high winds. River studies utilising the facilities of the hydraulics laboratory also assisted in the determination of the optimal location for the bridge.

Computer Assisted Design in Architecture Project

Location: Australia
Donor: IDP Education Australia
Duration: September 1997 - December 1997

This project involved the training of visiting Malaysian academics in computer assisted architectural design at Monash University and a private architectural firm. The training was intended to upgrade the skills and knowledge of lecturers and instructors in specific areas related to their teaching duties at various Polytechnics and Secondary Technical Schools in Malaysia.

Australia-China Institutional Links Program

Location: Nanjing, PRC and Australia
Donor: AusAID
Duration: Feb 1997 - Feb 1999

This project involved collaboration between two teams from China and the ongoing employment of 2 full time and 1 part time research staff from Southeast University (PRC) in the development of software and hardware systems for a permanent and portable automated fault diagnostic machine condition monitoring system.
