Improving your EnglishMonash is strict about the English language requirements but we provide alternative pathways into Monash and we offer several programs to help you improve your English while you are at Monash. If you are just below the minimum requirementIf you are just below the minimum entry score you may be able to do an English Language Bridging Program at the Monash University English Language Centre (MUELC). You will have to pay extra tuition fees but Monash Abroad has arranged discounted rates for exchange and study abroad students. 10 and 15 week courses are offered, depending on your level of English, and they are timed to have you ready to commence your exchange or study abroad study at the beginning of semester. For instance, English bridging programs start in October and November each year and finish in time for you to start first semester in February the following year. The programs are taught in dedicated language training facilities on campus at Monash University. If you are interested in doing a bridging program, contact Monash Abroad. If you are eligible you will be given a conditional offer of entry to Monash as an exchange or study abroad student. Do not apply directly to MUELC. Details of the bridging programs can be found at the Monash University English Language Centre website. Studying English for creditSeveral units are offered as part of the English as an international language course which will help you gain a much deeper understanding of the English language. They do not directly focus on the teaching of English language skills but they will encourage your personal language development. See the section on interesting courses offered at Monash for more details. Practicing EnglishThe Monash language exchange program arranges for international students to help local students who are studying a foreign language - Japanese, Bahasa Indonesia, Korean, Chinese, Spanish, German and French. In exchange, the international students receive assistance with English communication and friendly interaction with locals. Participants are matched to the language requested, age and male/female preference. Time involved -- one hour per week. |
