Study plan -- unit (course) selection

Apart from the prohibitions listed below, exchange and study abroad students can apply for any units for which they have the necessary prerequisites. However you should note the following carefully when preparing their study plans:

  1. You should select 8 units per semester in case some are refused or unavailable.
  2. Units should be at 1st, 2nd or 3rd year level, unless you are a postgraduate. 4th year units can only be selected if they are not postgraduate units and providing you have completed a minimum of 3 years of undergraduate in the same area at their home university.  (Undergraduate units in the Faculty of Law are not numbered according to their year level; undergraduate units start with numbers 1-5 and postgraduate units with 7.)
  3. Postgraduate students are considered on a case by case basis and many postgraduate units are not available to exchange or study abroad students
  4. Check that units are offered in the semester you will be at Monash.
  5. All units must be offered at one campus, except Clayton and Caulfield where a mixture of units can be selected, subject to final class timetable
  6. Students enrolled in more than 50% Art & Design units must also enrol in non-credit Occupational Health and Safety unit OHS1000 for which there is a fee
