Monash University's Australian Centre for Justice Innovation (ACJI) is pleased to announce it is hosting a Civil Justice Conference, consisting of a one-day forum, followed by an optional two-day roundtable discussion.

Future of Civil Procedure – Innovation and Inertia Forum

The 2016 Civil Justice Forum: 'Future of Civil Procedure – Innovation and Inertia' forum is an opportunity to learn about the latest developments in the civil justice sphere from the experts.

Join us for a series of expert presentations and discussion about how the justice system is evolving in a dynamic social environment. This exciting forum will explore key issues in the modern legal environment, such as the role of courts in a changing environment, the impact and use of technology on law and potential and current changes in litigation funding and regulation.

The sub-theme of the forum is 'the role of civil justice in promoting well- being'. This sub-theme focuses attention on the Productivity Commission's 2014 report, Access to Justice, which states that the 'overriding objective' of justice system reform is to 'enhance community wellbeing'.

Our keynote speaker is Chief Justice Marilyn Warren, who will speak about the role of the courts in a changing environment. The forum will also feature Colin Rule - COO of Modria. Modria is an online dispute resolution platform that has dealt with more than 400 million disputes. and a number of keynote speakers including a former Victorian Law Reform Commissioner, academics and others.

Additional Option:

Academic Focus Roundtable
18-19 February 2016

Following the forum will be a two-day Academic Focus Roundtable representing an excellent opportunity for academics to discuss and extend their research on civil procedure and teaching with other leading experts in the field.
