About this guide

This guide was funded by a grant from the Victoria Law Foundation, and researched and written by the Progressive Law Network with support and mentorship from the Castan Centre for Human Rights Law. In its current form it mostly contains Victorian and some Federal organisations. However, we would like to expand the guide to be a national resource and invite organisations from all over Australia to submit an entry.

The guide is designed to be useful for tertiary students, graduates, practising lawyers and secondary school careers counsellors. While most of the focus is on jobs available to those who attain a law degree, there are some fields in which a law degree is not required (see the Consumer Rights and Justice System sections particularly). This may be of interest to secondary school careers counsellors advising students who are interested in law as a career, but may not have the requisite marks, or law students who have not completed their degree.

Counsellors advising Indigenous students are advised to see the "Information for Indigenous Students and Lawyers" section which has a range of training options for Indigenous youth.
