Requirements for a patent attorney

The Faculty of Law teaches several units annually which are accredited by the Professional Standards Board for Patent and Trade Marks Attorneys to satisfy the knowledge requirements for registration as a Trade Marks Attorney. Students are responsible to ascertain which units need to be covered.

The Faculty of Law has taught several additional units that go towards satisfying most of the knowledge requirements for a Patent Attorney. The remaining requirements, if not offered at Monash, may be completed via complementary study enrolment at a different university.

Students should contact the Professional Standards Board for Patent and Trade Marks Attorneys for information about exemptions, Topic Groups and required application procedures.

Students applying for patent attorney registration need to complete requirements for Topics A, B, C, D, E, F, G, I, H
