Description of Program
The overarching goal under Karreeta Yirramboi is to increase Aboriginal participation in the Victorian public sector workforce. This plan is therefore an integral part of Victoria's broader Aboriginal Economic Development agenda, and signals the Victorian Government's ommitment to the COAG target to halve the gap in employment outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
To achieve this important objective, Victoria has set a one per cent Aboriginal employment target for the Victorian public sector to be achieved by 2018.
Information for Indigenous Students
All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tertiary graduates (or those students who are in their final year of study), are eligible to apply for the Aboriginal Pathway to the Victorian Government Graduate Recruitment and Development Scheme (GRADS). The GRADS is a 12-month rotational employment and development program for university graduates. There is an ongoing job at the end of the program.
In two years of operating the Pathway, 12 Aboriginal graduates have successfully entered the Victorian Public Service.
There is no restriction on study discipline. Culturally sensitive support is provided during the application process and beyond.
For more information, contact the Pathway manager, Lynne Witynski Lynne.Witynski@ssa.vic.gov.au
Information for Indigenous Lawyers
The Victorian Public Sector seeks to be an employer of choice for Indigenous professionals. For more information on initiatives to attract and retain Indigenous employees, visit the Kareeta Yirrimboi page on the Victorian Government website
