Ms Owen is responsible for the Library’s strategic planning incorporating evidence and analytics, for effective communication with all stakeholders and for building the Library's capability in these areas. She also has oversight of the Library's relationships with University partners and with its centralised services, ensuring the effective and efficient operations of facilities management, administration, finance, human resources, external relations, development and alumni.
Ms Owen joined Monash University Library in 2016, following academic library experience at Deakin University, the University of New South Wales and the University of Tasmania. Sue has also held various roles in government, non-government and corporate research libraries and undertaken library and training consultancies.
Ms Owen recognises that our research and education communities operate in a ubiquitous information environment which offers tremendous potential to accelerate success. Our professional challenge is to build the capability of our communities to critically access and creatively utilise information for best results. In response, our focus in the Library is to strengthen our impact on student learning and research through evidence-based improvement across all our endeavours.
Ms Owen is a professional member of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), has held office at ALIA’s state level and conducted ALIA training workshops. Her published articles and presentations reflect her active involvement in student engagement and retention, student learning and digital literacy, library learning spaces, open scholarship and research.
