Commencement date/request for deferral

If you are yet to commence your degree, you are required to enrol and take up your award by the preferred commencement date/s set by your faculty. Please note however, that the earliest a scholarship can be taken up is 1 January (for end-of-year-round applications) and 1 August (for mid-year-round applications) of the year for which an offer is made.

If employment commitments, or circumstances beyond your control, prevent you from taking up a scholarship by these dates, you might be allowed to defer the commencement of your course/scholarship. The latest a scholarship can be deferred to for end-of-year awardees (ie R1) is 30 June. The latest a scholarship can be deferred to for mid-year awardees (ie R2) is 31 December.

Formal approval for a late start must be sought from our Graduate Research Committee, using our request for deferral online form. Note: You must accept your offer before submitting a request for deferral. For an update on your deferral request, contact the Admissions Team.
