Monash University Academy of Performing ArtsOffering an innovative and challenging program, the Monash University Academy of Performing Arts incorporates a fourth year Honours Degree for students of the Centre for Drama and Theatre Studies and an exciting mentoring program for students of the School of Music – Conservatorium. Under the guidance of two outstanding Artistic Directors, Peter Oyston (Drama) and Jeffrey Crellin (Music), the Academy provides a highly professional arena in which students are given the opportunity to develop both their artistic and academic disciplines under the guidance of expert mentors. This program includes a series of public performances by the students, which make a significant contribution to the cultural and intellectual life of Monash University and its communities. Jan Clancy Applications are invited to audition for the Graduate Theatre Ensemble 2009Students in the Graduate Theatre Ensemble undertake a one year intensive program of coursework towards Honours or Graduate Studies in Theatre. In association with The Centre for Drama and Theatre Studies the course offers specific skills trainingworkshops in acting, singing, movement (Feldenkreis), voice (story telling and specialist vocal techniques), as well as coursework in research methodologies, dramatic theory and criticism. Professionally presented theatre productions enable the practical application of these skills, culminatingin performances on and off campus, in commercial theatres and on tour. Individualised tuition takes place in a small group environment from professional teachers and directors, under the guidance of Artistic Director, Peter Oyston. The opportunity for students to partake in programs at this level of innovation and excellence, exposing them to a breadth of knowledge and artistic endeavour, is not usually available to students and is a significant hallmark of the Academy’s philosophy. Activities include three major orchestral concerts with the Monash Academy Orchestra, Music in the Round at Monash, the annual School of Music Concerto and Vocal competition, as well as access to the finest artists through master classes and touring.
