Two of the best-loved composers of all time come together in this program of popular classics. In 1806, the year of its premiere, Beethoven’s violin concerto was unprecedented in its scale and in the expansive and intricate dialogues between soloist and orchestra. It took some 60 years for it to become established as a supreme concerto for the instrument.

Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony begins in an atmosphere of dark turbulence, but emerges blazing and triumphant by its conclusion. This is a favourite symphony by a favourite composer.

Named Instrumentalist of the Year by Musical America in 2005, Christian Tetzlaff is one of the world’s leading violinists.
