A Monash College program is an entry pathway to Monash University, one of Australia’s prestigious Group of Eight universities, renowned for their excellence in research, scholarship and teaching.

If you narrowly missed the required results for direct entry into the degree of your choice, but don’t want to delay your educational journey, then a Monash College diploma may be the right pathway to university for you.

Monash College programs are open to both domestic and international students and many students, no matter their background, find that undertaking a Monash College undergraduate diploma is the ideal bridge between school and university, as it makes the transition as smooth and simple as possible. All students enter into a full fee program, irrespective of being an international or domestic student. At the completion of the diploma a domestic student has to compete for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) at Monash University.

Studying with Monash College in Australia or through one of our international partners is also the ideal choice for applicants who may have left school a few years ago and who may not have the qualifications required to get directly into university, but who wish to advance their education.

Progression into university

Monash College undergraduate diplomas are offered in two parts:

  • Diploma Part 1 (comparable to Australia Year 12)
  • Diploma Part 2 (equivalent to first year University)

Note: Some diploma of Health Sciences pathways provide only partial credit towards the completion of the first year of the destination Bachelor degree at Monash University.

Diploma Part 1

If you have successfully completed Year 11 or equivalent then the first entry point, Diploma Part 1, is for you. Part 1 is equivalent to year 12; however, it allows you to focus on the subjects that are most relevant to you and your intended degree.

If you are an international student and achieve the required grades in Diploma Part 1 you may be eligible to enter into the first year of your chosen Bachelors degree at Monash University.

Diploma Part 2

If you have successfully completed Year 12 or equivalent with the appropriate pre-requisite subjects then Diploma Part 2 is for you. You will be given credit for Part 1. Part 2 is equivalent to first year university and will ease your transition to university by giving you all the skills you need to succeed, at the same time as beginning your undergraduate qualification.

If you are an international student and achieve the required grades for Diploma Part 2 you will be eligible to enter your chosen Bachelors degree at Monash University.  Please note that some streams in the Diploma of Health Sciences provide only partial credit towards first year at Monash University.

Accelerate your way to university

Monash College programs offer an accelerated option at all teaching locations (excluding Sri Lanka which offers standard mode only) for students wanting to achieve their goal of entry to university sooner. In the accelerated option, students take on a higher unit load per semester. Students should consult with a Monash College adviser before choosing the accelerated option.

If you enter Monash College Diploma Part 1 with an Australia Year 11 qualification or equivalent, you can accelerate to Diploma Part 2 after two trimesters (depending on your results)

If you enter Monash College Diploma Part 2 with a Year 12 qualification or equivalent, you can accelerate Diploma Part 2 and complete in two trimesters so you can enter university sooner.

NOTE: The Monash College Diploma of Engineering Part 2 cannot be accelerated and takes three trimesters to complete.

Destination degrees

Monash College has five undergraduate diploma programs all of which lead to a specific selection of Monash University degrees. These are called destination degrees. You should choose the Monash College undergraduate diploma that best suits your interests and future educational and career goals.
