CSP - Frequently Asked Questions

What is a CSP?

CSP means Commonwealth Supported Place. These are allocated to students who are:

  • Australian citizens
  • New Zealand citizens
  • Humanitarian visa holders (studying in Australia)
  • Australian Permanent Residents (studying in Australia).

Each University (provider) is allocated a set number of CSP annually. A student entering a university within this scheme is required to pay a student contribution set by the university. HECS-HELP assistance is available only to Australian citizens.

How do I get a CSP after Monash College?

The marks that you receive during your Monash College diploma will form the base of selection by the University for entry into the destination degree. Students need to check the entry requirements carefully via this website. Your marks are calculated into a Grade Point Average (GPA). The marks you need and how to calculate your GPA can be found at www.monash.edu\monashcollege\destination\

What are my options?

Monash College has implemented a student support program to help you better understand your options. Students are encouraged to attend the information sessions to be held at each Monash College campus on 2 July, 2008.

In addition, Student Advisors and Field of Study managers will be available to meet with you one-to-one to determine your educational pathway and strategy.

What if I don’t get a CSP at Monash University?

The Monash College diploma is a recognised qualification in its own right. It will assist you in gaining credit towards further study. Counselling will be provided to each student to assist them in determining their educational pathway and strategy.

When will CSP offers be confirmed?

The process for students graduating in October 2008 will be advised.

How do I apply for a CSP?

Monash College will provide a document outlining the process as soon as it is available.

What score do I need?

The entry requirements for all diplomas can be found at www.monash\edu\monashcollege\destination\

Does this score guarantee me a place?

Students will be considered for a CSP within the destination faculty. Places are finite and could be subject to change depending on demand.

Monash College would highly recommend students work to their best ability in all subject areas for the duration of their program, as well as attending all classes. This will optimise a student’s future opportunities.

Do employers recognise the Monash College diploma?

Your Monash College Diploma is the equivalent of 1st year university. As such it provides a higher level of academic attainment than VCE.

The strength of your results, the desired job and your prior experience are all measures of employability. What you put into your program and the other experiences you have will also impact on your future success.

When I enrolled I thought I was guaranteed a Monash University place.

Your guarantee for entry into Monash University was for a full-fee place and was always dependent on your academic results.

Students with higher academic results were always able to apply for CSP.

The Commonwealth Government’s policy regarding the removal of Full-fee undergraduate places at Australian universities has made entry now more competitive. The grade point average (GPA), therefore, now required for entry into Monash University has been increased from the previous full-fee level to the current CSP level.

Why has this change happened?

The Commonwealth Government has introduced a new policy based on equity of access to undergraduate university education for domestic students.

As a result the allocation of full-fee places for domestic students has been removed and will no longer be available from January 2009. This change will impact on domestic Monash College enrolled students who graduate from their Monash College diploma after June 2008.

These changes are outside of the control of Monash College and Monash University.

Who can I speak to about my situation?

Monash College made available many opportunities for you to find out the answers to questions you may have. The information sessions provided general details about the changes and what you can do and expect. The one-to-one session were to help you determine your educational pathway and strategy.

Field of Study Managers, Student Advisors and the Monash College Course Advisor are all available to assist you with specific questions you may have. In addition the Deputy Principal – Student Experience is also available.

It is important that you take advantage of the opportunities provided by Monash College to ensure you know the facts and how they affect your plans.

Is there additional learning support available to help me reach the required Grade Point Average (GPA)?

Learning Advisors, Field of Study Managers and the Monash College Course Advisor are all available to help. This may cover how to calculate your GPA, how to focus your efforts, and assist you in identifying the areas in which you need to improve.
