Underload Policy: Monash College

Purpose

This policy establishes a process for monitoring student course progression, and the implementation of intervention strategies for students who are at risk of not making satisfactory course progress.

Scope

This policy applies to all Monash College students and covers the teaching and examination periods.

Policy Statement

Students’ progress is monitored, recorded and assessed to ensure that Monash College both facilitates the highest quality of learning possible with its students, and, at the same time, complies with relevant regulatory requirements. Monash College can allow a student to enrol in less than a 'full time' load in any study period if:

There are compassionate or compelling reasons for reducing the load;
A reduced load is part of Monash College’s intervention strategy;
The student has only a few units left to complete and these do not constitute a full-time load;
Pre-requisites are not available in that study period
Monash College extends the duration of the student's study where it is clear that the student will not complete the course within the expected duration, as specified on the student's CoE

The National Code 2007 offers flexibility to Monash College to manage a students' work load however; Monash College will apply procedures which will ensure students are able to follow an enrolment pattern that will allow them to finish their Diploma studies within the expected duration.
