What qualifications do the teachers have?
All teachers of Monash College programs in China are experienced teachers who possess university qualifications. For some courses, experts in a specific field are brought in as guest lecturers so that the students can benefit from a specially trained person.
每个班级有多少名学生？
我们按平均每个班级20名学生开课。班级人数可随报名情况而改变，但一个班级绝不会超过21名学生。
How many students are there in each class?
We run on the basis of an average of 20 students per class. This number can vary according to enrolments but we never have more than 21 in a class.

How do I know which class I will be in?
Classes are determined by the educational level of the individual student. Lower level students all begin in General English.
You will be assessed according to the diagnostic placement test which is comprised of listening, reading, grammar and writing sections and then an interview. In the interview you can indicate the level you think you are at, your needs, wishes and plans for the future. You will then be placed into the correct class level.
If there is more than one class at the same level we will do our best to mix students from various countries. All classes are taught and assessed in English.

Will I receive an outline of what we will study?
By Week 2 of the course you will receive a Course Information document. This will outline the general goals for the class and the specific objectives along with proposed excursions, self-study expectations and an outline of assessment items.

What sort of work will we do when we are in the English Language Centre?
In General English classes the emphasis is placed on communicative skills.
At the upper levels, students give presentations and practice various types of writing. Grammar and vocabulary are taught within the context of each topic. Enhancing the grammar and vocabulary skills of students is achieved by practicing reading, listening, speaking and writing. There is generally a fairly even balance of the four aspects within the class work.
EAP (English for Academic Purposes) is comprised of tertiary preparation and test preparation classes as well as English language bridging classes. These classes focus on academic skills and preparation for the reading, writing, speaking and listening, note taking and research skills. All students are expected to complete their homework tasks which can vary from written tasks, to finding out information, watching a TV program or reading text.
英语老师在课堂采用什么教学方法？

Which teaching methodologies are employed by English teachers in the classroom?
Teaching in the English Language Centre is based upon communicative methods that use authentic materials where possible. Students are required to actively practice using the language through as individuals, in pairs and in groups. The mixture of student-centred and teacher-centred methodologies allows for students to work at their own pace and also be encouraged and helped by the group and the teacher. The teachers employ written, audio, audio-visual and computer-based language learning materials to support their teaching.

What is the English Language Bridging Program (ELBP)?
The English Language Bridging Program (ELBP) provides a cultural context for developing language skills, content knowledge and autonomous learning. Monash Conditional Offers are made to students based on their academic suitability and their English proficiency.
The ELBP enables students to enter the University or College without sitting another IELTS test, on condition they successfully complete all six assessment tasks. The course requirements focus students on the academic conventions, expectations and strategies of university study in a supportive and collaborative environment.

What is the difference between English for Academic Preparation (EAP) and the English Language Bridging Program (ELBP)?
English for Academic Preparation (EAP) assists students to achieve a high standard of everyday English communication skills by covering the four main skills of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. It includes activities such as debates, discussions, spoken presentations, various styles of formal and informal writing such as letters and summaries,, along with individual and class projects. The emphasis is upon basic language structures, a wide range of language situations, study skills and independent learning.
The ELBP is designed for students planning to begin tertiary study. The course focuses upon preparing students for the IELTS test and upon strategies for formal academic reading, research, writing, listening to lectures and tutorial presentations. All ELBP classes focus upon academic study skills and preparation for the reading, writing, speaking and listening, note taking and research skills.

How can I improve my English quickly?
Some people say that there is really no quick way to learn a language and that you need to work hard if you want to see an improvement. So the first piece of advice is to attend classes regularly and complete all the set work. Try to use the language in and outside of class, listen to the radio, watch television, write a diary in English, and try to mix with students of different nationalities so that you need to use English to communicate. In class students are encouraged to speak and discuss issues with other students. This is a way of gaining confidence in speaking and once there is confidence, progress in learning is more evident.

How will I be able to progress from the English Language Bridging Program (ELBP) into Monash College?
Following successful completion of the English Language Bridging Program (ELBP), students can undertake diploma studies at Monash College. Progression depends upon the teachers' evaluation of how successfully you are performing the set tasks and tests. Your teachers have a lot of experience and they may recommend that a student moves up, down or remains at a specific level until students attain the required skills.

How is the Monash College diploma structured?
The Diploma Part 1 is comparable to Australia Year 12. You will undertake specialised study to understand your own preferred style of learning, the type of teaching and learning you experienced in secondary school, and how to make a smooth transition to being a successful university student.
You will be provided with the necessary knowledge and tools to help you become an independent learner with strong skills in critical, analytical and creative thinking and a deep understanding of research techniques. You will track your personal growth in this area through the use of e-learning portfolios. Other units provide strong grounding in your chosen discipline.
In Part 2 of your Monash College diploma program you will undertake the equivalent of first-year university study.
One advantage of the Monash College pathway is that your lecture classes are smaller than they will be at university, which allows you to make strong links with your lectures and other students. Monash College thereby helps you to make a more confident transition to university-style learning.

Entry requirements
Students with adequate IELTS results can be directly accepted into a Monash College program. All other students wishing to enter the Guangzhou campus must take the entrance examination and if successful can start with a Monash University English Language Centre language course.

Are the classes the same as in an Australian University?
Each Monash College teaching partner guarantees the same rigorous approach to quality of teaching and curriculum for the higher education undergraduate diplomas they offer; but each has unique characteristics that allow choice by the student and their family.
The Monash College program teaching staff are professionally trained with relevant industry experience. The subjects are taught and assessed under strict quality controls, and Part 1 results are checked in Australia and Part 2 results are checked by Monash University academic staff. The teaching, learning and assessment materials are developed in Australia and offered through partnership arrangements around the world. Individual faculties in the University oversee the design of the Monash College undergraduate diplomas and set assessment methods and standards to ensure a quality program that teaches students the skills and knowledge required to succeed in their educational path.

Monash College programs are offered at three different entry points in the year – February/March, June and October.

What Campus facilities and services are available in Guangzhou?
As a student of a Monash College program in China you are entitled to full access of a wide range of student services, learning and sporting facilities including:
- A library
- Computer laboratories and Internet access
- Sporting facilities such as an Olympic sized swimming pool, a tennis court, basketball, badminton and volleyball courts, a soccer ground surrounded by a running track and gymnasium facilities.

Visa requirements and services
International students who wish to progress to second year at Monash University in Australia must have a valid student visa. The Australian Government issues student visas for full-time study on the understanding that you study on-campus and have sufficient funds to cover your tuition fees and living expenses for the duration of your time in Australia.
Student visas automatically grant students permission to undertake paid work while studying (up to 20 hours per week while your course is in session and unlimited hours during scheduled course breaks).

We arrange training for the students prior to their departure. In addition, our staff are able to arrange a pick up service for students from the airport to their accommodation.

Apartments: Guangdong Training School for Study Abroad where Monash College programs are offered is a boarding school. Our students' apartments are well equipped with air-conditioners, shower-rooms and laundries with two to four students sharing a room. Care-giving teachers are responsible for supervising the daily life of students outside of their classes.
广州校区有什么膳食安排？

What are the arrangements for meals on campus in Guangzhou?
Our nutritionist, who used to work in Sun Yat-Sen University of Medical Sciences, designs customised recipes for students with different needs, so that the nutrition balance is assured and the adequate nutrition is provided each day.

What transportation services are available in Guangzhou?
Every weekend there are shuttle buses taking students to and from school, escorted by teachers and school guards, which travel to major Guangzhou city destinations and some regional areas. Activities can be arranged for the students who stay on the school premises over weekends.

How are quality and academic management administered in Monash College programs in Guangzhou?
When students commence studies in Guangzhou they will enter a western educational environment but still have the benefit of living in China. Our teachers are all highly professional, experienced lecturers who deliver the program under strict quality controls. The teaching, learning and assessment materials are developed in Australia. Individual Faculties within Monash University oversee the design of the Monash College undergraduate diplomas and set assessment methods and standards to ensure a quality program.
When a student enrols in a Monash College program in Guangzhou they immediately become a Monash student, giving them on-line access to the Monash University Library in Australia.
