BASIC DESIGN STUDIO B (MCD1290)

Purpose

This unit provides students with a foundation in three-dimensional design. It introduces students to the basic skills, processes, materials and equipment necessary to the practice of design. The unit comprises a series of theoretical and practical exercises. Projects and class exercises have been formulated to encourage the student to explore three-dimensional form in a confident and competent manner. Historical and contemporary examples of design will be examined, analyzed and discussed. This is achieved through research, lectures, demonstrations and practical application.

Prerequisites

MCD 1330 Design Studio A

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

  1. Recognise and analyse three-dimensional elements of design;
  2. Recognise, analyse and use the physical principles of three-dimensional design; and,
  3. Understand conceptual and representational principles of volumes and structures.

Assessment

Assignments: 100%. This unit consists of projects. Each of the assigned projects demands the implementation of various elements and principles of design.
