MANAGEMENT 1: MANAGING PEOPLE AND ORGANISATIONS (MCD2040)
Purpose
This unit is designed to develop an understanding of how organisations are managed and to enable the application of analytical skills to a range of managerial and organisational issues.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
- Describe the evolution of management theory.
- Describe the management roles and functions.
- Analyse and assess the influence of the general external environment on an organisation.
- Identify the major elements of organisational culture in the workplace and how these impact on organisational outcomes.
- Apply the concepts of ethics and social responsibility to working in an organisation.
- Explore the key elements of planning and decision-making.
- Identify, generate, evaluate and select strategy alternatives for organisations.
- Explain the importance of organisational structure and design for organisations.
- Describe the importance of control in organisations.
- Discuss the nature of the employment relationship.
- Explain the relevance of leaders in organisations.
- Apply the theories of motivation to organisational contexts.
- Discuss how change needs to be managed in order to achieve organisational goals.
