COMPUTING FOR ENGINEERS (MCD4140)

Purpose

To develop an understanding of commonly used numerical methods for solving engineering problems; the ability to appropriately apply numerical methods to engineering problems and to know some of the limitations of such methods. To develop structured problem solving techniques and to develop a knowledge of programming concepts and the ability to write simple programs.

MCD1160 Introductory Engineering Computing

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

  1. To develop an understanding of commonly used numerical methods for solving engineering problems.
  2. To develop the ability to appropriately apply numerical methods to engineering problems and to know some of the limitations of such methods.
  3. To develop structured problem solving techniques
  4. To develop a knowledge of programming concepts and the ability to write simple programs.

Assessment

70% written examination (3 hours)

30% continuous assessment
