Monash College Unit Guide
MULTIMEDIA & DIGITAL ARTS STUDIO A (MCD5090)
Purpose
This unit provide a foundation unit introducing students to the fundamental aspects of multimedia and digital arts practice.
Prerequisites
Successful completion of Trimester 3, Monash College Diploma of Art and Design Studies or equivalent studies.
Learning outcomes
At the completion of this unit students will be able to:
- Understand the language of multimedia and the application of art & design principles;
- Understand the roles of multimedia designer and digital artist in electronic communication;
- Have an understanding of the nature of multimedia elements, including text, image, sound, animation and video;
- Be able to analyse digital media productions, and identify the various multimedia elements used;
- Be able to use text and images as communication elements in digital publications and creative productions;
- Approach the problem-solving of screen-based, interface design with an inquiring, adventurous and open attitude.
- Understand and be able to apply the rules of occupational health and safety appropriate to the unit of study.
Assessment
The unit will be assessed based on the production of a portfolio of creative work comprised of:
A total of four projects (cumulatively totalling 80%), that focus on the development of the technical, artistic and conceptual skills of students across such areas as time-based design, interface design and interactivity.
A Diary/Journal (20%) that documents the student’s ongoing resourcing, development, exploration and understanding.
