Purpose

This unit is designed to develop an understanding of the human mind and to enable students to apply skills to a range of behavioural and cognitive issues..

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Be familiar with the stages of development in human transition over the life span.
  2. Be aware of various theoretical perspectives which have been developed in order to understand human development, personality, abnormal behaviour and social behaviour.
  3. Be able to appreciate the strengths and weaknesses of these perspectives and to be aware of the political and social influences on their development.
  4. Understand some of the relationships between these perspectives and various approaches to the treatment of behaviour disorders derived from them.
