Monash College launches the Diploma of Health Sciences

Thursday October 30 saw the official launch of the Diploma of Health Sciences at the Seahorse Tavern on the Peninsula campus, with an opening address given by Professor Steven Wesselingh, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. There were also speeches from Jo Mithen, CEO of Monash College Pty Ltd and Sue Bell, Executive Principal of Monash College. The function was attended by Monash University staff, Monash College staff and Board members along with the first students taking part in the program.

Teaching of the Diploma of Health Sciences commenced on October 20, 2008 at the Monash College Peninsula campus where the Diploma of Business has been running since February 2005. This new Diploma provides an alternative pathway to a range of Degrees in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences including the Bachelors of Health Science, Nursing, Emergency Health and Biomedical Science. Depending on their highest educational qualification, students may enter the Diploma in Part 1, which is similar to VCE year 12, or Part 2 which is equivalent to undergraduate first year. Diploma graduates who meet the University's entry requirements will enter either first year or second year of their degree of choice with advanced standing.

This exciting new partnership between Monash College and Monash University's Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences will provide international students with a supportive learning environment and aid them in their transition into their tertiary studies in Australia. It also promotes the Faculty's fundamental objectives of preparing students to enter their respective health-related professions and training future leaders for Australia and the globe.
