Student visa requirements: www.dimia.gov.au/students/students/chooser/index.htm

Student visas

  • Visas are issued by the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC)
  • Student visas are issued on the understanding that you have sufficient funds to cover your tuition fees and living expenses whilst in Australia
  • The visa application process may take up to three months or more depending on which country you are in when you apply
  • International students studying in Australia on a student visa must study full-time and on-campus
  • To apply for a visa, or to obtain more information about the expected length of the visa application process contact your nearest Australian Diplomatic Mission (Embassy, High Commission, Consulate or ConsulateGeneral)

Visa application

The requirements for you to get a visa depend on your country of origin and the education sector for which you are applying, and include:

1. Country assessment levels

Your country assessment level will depend on your nationality. To find out which country assessment level applies to you, visit the DIAC website: www.dimia.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1219i.pdf

2. Visa subclass

You must apply for your visa according to the education sector of your principal course. The relevant subclasses are 572 (Monash College), 570 (Monash University English Language Centre programs) and 573 (Monash University).

Note: If you will be enrolling in a bachelor degree following your Monash College diploma, your main course will be a higher education sector degree course. You will therefore be assessed against a subclass 573 visa.

For more information, visit: www.immi.gov.au/students/students/chooser/572.htm

3. Evidentiary requirements

Depending on your country of origin and/or assessment level you may also require:

  • a medical check
  • evidence of sufficient funds and/or
  • evidence of English language proficiency

This will depend on your visa subclass and assessment level:
