Student support services

At Monash College Australia students have access to a wide range of support services including:

Student advisers

Monash College students are encouraged to seek the advice from the teachers, learning advisers or academic managers on academic matters.

Student advisers are also available for advice or referral on issues ranging from academic to emotional and cultural issues. When consulting with staff, students should bring all relevant program/unit information.  Referrals may also be made to other service providers in areas such as health, housing or counselling.

Students should always check with an academic manager when planning their courses, and consult the appropriate website for the most up-to-date faculty and course information.

Counsellors

The Monash College Counselling service provides free and confidential counselling to students. Professionally trained counsellors are available to discuss any academic and personal issues they may have. The staff are qualified psychologists with advanced counselling training.

Online class materials

Internet access is available for students through any of the Monash computer labs and libraries on-campus. Online learning is used as a support for students. At Monash College, all class materials can be accessed in this way.

Language and learning support

Monash College students have access to language and learning support resources and programs to improve their academic English skills and their approaches to study.

The Learning Support Unit (LSU) is based in the Independent Learning Centre (ILC) in Building 73 on the Clayton campus.

Learning advisers

Learning advisers provide free academic skill workshops and individual consultations on:

  • How to be a successful tertiary student
  • Study and time management

  • Revision and exam preparation
  • Accessing other student support and services at Monash College

Religious services

Monash College students can access spiritual support regardless of religious faith. Monash Religious Centres are multi-faith centres that encompass all religious affiliations and denominations.

At Clayton campus the Religious Centre is located in Building 9 next to the Campus Centre.

At Caulfield campus, the Religious Centre is located in room 9, Level 3, T Block.

Monash religious services

Muslim Students

Monash College recognises that Muslim students often have specific social, religious and cultural needs. Monash University has published an Islamic handbook called Salaam Monash Handbook, which offers:

  • Information on Islamic Services and Facilities in the Melbourne region
  • A register of local Halal food/groceries outlets
  • Contact details of Islamic societies/organistaions

Clubs and Societies are a vital part of the University life and give students the opportunity to meet people with similar interests, make friends and develop skills.

Financial services

Students having difficulties managing their finances have access to community services specialists, financial advice and basic taxation information through Student Financial Aid.

Health and medical services

Monash Health Service

Students have access to the health services available on-campus. Appointments are preferred for all the services and it is advisable to bring your Monash College student ID.

For International students the consultation with the doctor is billed direct to your overseas health cover provider as long as you have a current OSHC card.

Legal advice

Clayton

The Faculty of Law operates the Monash-Oakleigh Legal Service. The service provides legal advice and assistance to students and staff, handles cases, and arranges representation in courts and tribunals.

The service is free to students and members of the community who cannot afford to pay for legal assistance. Unless legal aid is granted, legal representation by a barrister must be paid for.
