Monday 21 March 7.20pm

5 minute performance
FREE event, all welcome
Location: Campus Green, Caulfield Campus

Improvised Smoke Device was first performed in Perth in 2010, and again in 2011 for Primavera at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney. For this iteration, MUMA, in association with SummerFest 2016, will restage the performance as part of the Dîner en Coloré. Improvised Smoke Device is a transitory work that elicits shifting intensities of emotion, underlining the human pursuit for joy and its elusive presence in our lives. Mesmerising and fleeting, Improvised Smoke Device draws attention to the relationship between colour, sound and movement in the construction of celebratory moments.

Dîner en Coloré is a special event for music, food, fashion, and fun at Caulfield Campus. Entertainment on the main stage will include The Kujo Kings, Tara Leigh Dowler and DJ Mona Gene and headline act The Cactus Channel. There will be a variety of food trucks and market stalls.

Rebecca Baumann completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Curtin University of Technology, Perth in 2003 and has since exhibited regularly both locally and internationally. Fascinated by the complex workings of human emotions, Baumann's practice explores the pursuit of happiness through celebration and ritual. Her meticulously orchestrated performances, working with whimsical materials such as confetti, streamers and smoke, negotiate the relationship between beauty, spectacle and control.
