Ghosts of Self and State looks into the space between the citizen and the state, the individual and the body politic. How do the acts and structures of our society reflect the values of its members? How close or far are we from our own history? How is the memory of the individual transformed into the mythology and history of the state? In a collection of powerful and elegaic works Markus Schinwald, Moataz Nasr and Tom Nicholson consider the political and personal in relation to memory: its persistence, fragility and Chinese-whispers passage into myth.
