The Monash Institute of Cognitive and Clinical Neurosciences (MICCN) is successfully spreading its international wings through the signing of five global Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreements.

Yet, signings alone do not make a collaboration.

As a first step in realising their full potential, MICCN is investing $20,000 per year into each MOU in the form of two named Early Career Researcher (ECR) prizes. Each prize – 10 in total – will allow a MICCN ECR two two-month visits to the respective Institute, with the impressive list including the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour (Radboud University, The Netherlands), the D’Or Institute for Research and Education (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil),  Western University’s Brain and Mind Institute (London, Ontario, Canada), King’s College London (an MOU signed with the Monash School of Psychological Sciences), and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital at the Harvard Medical School (Boston, USA).

Professor Kim Cornish, Director MICCN and Head of the School of Psychological Sciences, is excited by the opportunities that these MOUs and the respective ECR prizes bring.

“Our MOU collaborations have facilitated the building of an international ‘network of excellence’ with leading educational, research and industrial innovators”, Prof Cornish said. “These ECR prizes actually use this opportunity to link together the best researchers from around the world to help promote research, facilitate research training, and foster national and international collaboration in cognitive neuroscience.”

The inaugural ECR prize will be the “MICCN-Western University ECR Travel Fellowship”, with the first recipients expected to travel this year. Further details will be announced shortly.
